7-1 Blog: Green for Profit or Green for the Environment?

https://www.made-to-love.org/store

The business I chose was Made to Love. This is a small business that was founded by three friends in 2010 while on a mission trip to Haiti that is located in Hamilton Ohio. I would consider Made to Love to be a socially responsible business because it gives the communities in Haiti a chance to become sustainable and self sufficient. Made to Love is a nonprofit business that partner’s with individuals in Haiti to ship their handcrafted goods to them to sell in their business. I believe this business conducts their business in a socially responsible way is that all money made is used to help the children have the opportunity to go to school. This helps build them up and guide them out of poverty and into generational growth. This business has never been involved in any incidents for conducting business in an ethical or socially manner. The reason I say this is that all the founders have the same Christian values were they put others needs first. I feel the business is green for both profit and the environment. The reason for this is the more profit they make the more children they can send to school provides generational growth in the communities. They are also helping the environment because their partners in Haiti use a lot of recyclable items to handcraft items such as shoes, jewelry and handbags. I think this small business provides a huge opportunity to people that were never given an opportunity.

2-1 Blog: Under Armour: Where Do We Go From Here?

  • In the case study article, what market segments were identified and what segmentation strategies were implemented? Under Armour is known for the success in athletic men’s apparel. In 2013 the brand expanded to shorts, shoes and hats. Under Armour remained very competitive with Nike and Adidas in the men’s athletic market. In 2016 they had the opportunity to market women’s athletic apparel for UVA. Their marketing and advertising focused on showcasing technical apparel as innovative and modern. In 2014, they launched a campaign “I Will What I Want” in am attempt to target women in the market segment. The campaign was a huge success, generating over $15 million. This was the biggest campaign they have ever launched. The campaign was meant to target women through motivation and inspiration.
  • What do you believe are four to five key points to remember when implementing segmentation strategies? 1. Analyze what channels are used by target audience and utilize them to maximize target exposure. 2. Understand and capitalize the characteristics that make the product stand out from other competitors. 3. Analyze industry competitors and their strategies. 4. Have full understanding of who the target demographic is to include behaviors, interest and trends.
  • Identify a new market segment that you have noticed recently (during your own shopping experience online, in a commercial ad, or in a secondary resource such as a magazine) that you believe would be a great market to explore. How might you create a segmentation strategy to reach this new market segment? A market segment I have noticed is all of the different ads that pop up throughout social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. There are many different companies that use the apps to help promote new products or help promote local businesses based on what you have searched for in the past as well as the location you’re in. A segmentation strategy I would use is the consumers search history, which is essentially what Facebook does. They take what you have searched for and put in a few options based on your location, what you’re looking for, etc. Based on whatever product is being searched for, determining the main age group for this would help to aim towards that group for the business to gain more customers. Then, it would add more of a ‘push’, if you will for the local business and get the consumers to visit the suggested business in the future.

1-2 Blog: Consumer Who? Consumer You!

  • What type of consumer are you? I am an individual consumer. I purchase goods and services to satisfy my personal needs and the needs of my family.
  • What influences your buying decisions, and how? There are different things that influence my buying decisions. For instance, if I’m purchasing home essentials it would be more of a mental or cogitative response but if I’m purchasing clothing or personal items I would have more of an emotional or affective response.
  • Which stage actually leads to your purchasing decisions? The stage that leads me to a purchase is a problem or need recognition because I feel that every purchase should be necessary.
  • When making a buying decision, how are you influenced by marketing research and marketing design? I’m not overly influenced by marketing design however I am influenced by marketing research. Marketing research helps me to make a more educated decision when purchasing products.
  • Do you experience any post-purchase behavior? There has been times when I have experienced post-purchase behavior when I make a large purchase. I generally overthink the purchase and have anxiety.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
